Integrated Theatre Performance

Glenlyn Academy's Integrated Theatre Performance course is the full comprehensive performing arts course allowing students to become highly skilled in all aspects of Dance, Acting and Singing. Senior students are given the skills needed to pursue vocational training and eventually a career in the performing arts. Students receive weekly individual singing classes.

The course is structured as follows:

  • Foundation Students take eight classes a week in Ballet, Tap, Technical Jazz, Street Jazz, Musical Theatre, Acting, Singing & Vocal Technique and select a another dance discipline from Street Jazz, Acrobatics, Ballet, Technical Jazz and Tap.
  • Intermediate Students take ten classes a week in Ballet, Tap, Technical Jazz, Commercial, Contemporary, Musical Theatre, Acting, Singing & Vocal Technique and select one dance discipline from Street Jazz, Acrobatics, Ballet, Technical Jazz and Tap.
  • Advanced Students take twelve classes a week in Ballet, Tap, Technical Jazz, Commercial, Contemporary, Musical Theatre, Acting, Contextual Studies, Singing & Vocal Technique and select one dance discipline from Acrobatics, Ballet, Technical Jazz and Tap.


Girls on the Integrated Theatre Performance course are given specialist classes in developing the strength and technique required to go 'en pointe'. Boys are given specialist classes that focus on developing strength, stamina and technique.

Students on the Integrated Theatre Performance course cover:

  • A comprehensive understanding and skills in all aspects of performing arts
  • An understanding of the fundamentals of jazz dance: including turns, steps and kicks
  • Solo singing classes to develop strong and confident vocal technique
  • Developing posture, co-ordination and correct placement in dance
  • Integrating singing, dancing and acting
  • Fundamental techniques of singing, acting and dancing
  • Group exercises, drama games and improvisation
  • Understanding and developing characters
  • Improving self-confidence while developing greater balance, flexibility and strength
  • Understanding the technicality of footwork and co-ordination, corner to corner work and spacing and routine combination
  • A deep understanding of performance and technicality
  • Ballet barre exercises and stretches: including French terminology
  • Ballet footwork combinations (enchantments)
  • Build and develop tap choreography: and advancement of footwork combinations
  • Essential Contemporary dance combinations of steps and fundamental choreography
  • Technical exercises that improve posture, such as centre and floor exercises and travelling steps
  • Developing posture, co-ordination and correct placement in dance
  • Improving self-confidence while developing greater balance, flexibility and strength
  • A deep understanding of performance and technicality
  • Build and develop footwork combinations and choreography
  • Technical exercises that improve singing, acting and dance technique
  • Exploring the use of voice and body through vocal and physical exercises
  • Advanced students take Contextual Studies classes introducing them to the fundamental theories of acting


All students enrolled on to the Integrated Theatre Performance course are given the opportunity to perform in Glenlyn Academy's two showcases every year and are entered for examinations with LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art), the NATD (National Association of Teachers of Dancing) and IDTA (International Dance Teachers Association). Advanced students also take part in a full-scale musical in the Spring term.

Senior students receive career and development advice to allow them to make a seamless transition into further and higher education and training.

Parents receive verbal feedback on their child's development every term and a written report every year.
